It took a while but I finally moved to Somerset in November 2022 and I'm just beginning to get back into my practice again. I took part in a couple of workshops to ease back into the creative framework, a mono printing workshop with Steve Clarkeson at Frome Printmakers and a collage workshop with Jessica Wilker at the Silk Mill in Frome.

StatementThe exhibition brings together a mix of old and new works, all of which reference in some way, our long and intimate relationship to trees. On one level the exhibition aims to challenge the public's perception of an 'Art Exhibition' by housing the artworks amongst antique objects and blurring the boundaries between contemporary art and objects of desire. On another level, the exhibition begins to address our long relationship with trees and how they have impacted our lives.
' Many thanks go to Marcus Kenny for allowing me to show these works in his wonderful shop Applied to have this exhibition at H B Smith Antiques in Margate, promoted by the Turner Contemporary and local tourist board and had it accepted, this was my text for the application.
This event aims to challenge the public's perception of an Art Exhibition by housing the work amongst antique objects and blurring the boundaries between contemporary art and objects of desire. The artist intends being available at certain times during the exhibition, creating opportunities to engage with the public in order to gain invaluable feedback. By being part of the celebrations and activities that surround the Turner Prize, a wide selection of the public could potentially be drawn to the shop which could benefit both the artist and the shop owner, Marcus Kenny. The dates for the exhibition are 11th November 2019 - 2nd December 2019 between 12 – 17.30pm. The work I will be showing is the new body of work I have been working on for the past year which will include the small installation, 'Tree Magic' plus other pieces I am working on at present. Forgot to Mention! - Summer School 'Personal Eccologies' at The Drawing Room Gallery, London9/18/2019 Took part in the Drawing Room Summer School during 22nd - 26th July. Fantastic week, albeit very hot! It was headed by artist Tania Kovats with invited artists, Marcus Coates and Sarah Woodfine, and joined by Jane Sassiene. Very inspirational and relevant to my practice at present as it focused on very intense detailed drawing from natural objects with consideration to our personal relationship to these objects. This approach continues to inform my present practice. The large drawing executed near the end of the week came as strange mix of plant and human and seemed as it were, to draw itself.
Had one of my Shibari paintings - Shibari 3 - accepted for the Outsider Art Exhibition on show from the 13th September – 22nd September 2019. The exhibition was open to artists with an unusual take on art work often from outside the established art world. You can visit Candid Arts at https://candidarts.wordpress.com
Visions From Mamma Cacao and the Earth Goddess - 27th June - 10th July 2019An exhibition of 17 artists whose work was inspired by a series of Cacao Ceremonies, hosted by Sorrell Robbins, whose idea it was to hold this exhibition. I entered two works, a painting on paper titled Shimmering Tree and a small Installation titled Tree Magic. I also helped Sorrell curate the show.
My statement I have a passion for trees, probably partly due to having spent my early years living next to Richmond Park, where many an hour was spent walking through woods and climbing trees. More recently I have been concerned with the mindless destruction of forests and woods throughout the world, as well as the indigenous cultures that live amongst them. We in the Uk have forgotten our long and ancient relationship to trees, woods and forests a relationship that can be traced back to our indigenous peoples, the Celts. Their lives were so entwined with trees and forests they created an alphabet, known as the Ogham, consisting of twenty characters, each character corresponding to a particular tree. Tree is a painting inspired by a Shamanic journey in November last year. The message I was given was to travel deep into the dark centre of the forest, to go deep inside, later reminding me of my childhood experiences in Richmond park. Tree Magic was inspired by my more recent experiences with Mama Cacao, who taught me to let go and be more fluid with my life and artistic practice, to go with the flow. A painter for many years, this venture into the magic world of Mama Cacao has inspired me to create an installation, an altar, a celebration of the tree. The two inscribed wooden sticks spell out Tree Magic in Ogham, the rest is for you to muse upon. I am entering 4 of my 'Sky' paintings into the above exhibition which Opens on Tuesday 12th. I have reworked two of my earlier paintings which I was not entirely happy with. For more information visit the gallery here
Attended a four day (27th - 30th November) 'Colour on Colour' workshop at Seawhites in Sussex, working with oil paints only and headed by the artist Emily Ball. Very intensive few days but also very inspiring and learned a lot which proves the idea that one is never to old to learn! Really want to experiment further with oils working large scale on paper which I hope to do once Christmas is out of the way. Below are some of the experimental pieces I created during the period.
